Every new beginning has a long history associated with it. A man took the best from the past and combined it with the better that future technology has to offer; to form a company he so fondly called Netalkar Power Transmission ‘NPT’ in the year 1991 in Belgaum, Karnataka.
Going back in time, Late Shri. Digambar Netalkar, Father of Satish Netalkar founded Netalkar Engineering Works in the year 1965. This was a diversification from his core business then, which was Jewellery Manufacturing.
Crankshaft Manufacturing back in the time was a niche industry with the skill only a few could master. Having seen the opportunity in this high-precision industry, which required attention to the minutest of detail, Shri. Digambar decided to venture into it. A small shed and one conventional lathe to begin with, saw the beginning of crankshaft manufacturing by Netalkar Engineering Works.
After completing college, Satish tried his hands on carving beautiful jewellery for a few months. He then decided to officially join Netalkar Engineering Works ‘NEW’ in the year 1979 to help his eldest brother Late Shri. Ganapati Digambar Netalkar in business. He was however already a partner at NEW since the year 1971. Under Satish’s able leadership, NEW was proud to introduce its very first crankshaft GCS-500 Grinder in December of 1981. This was just the beginning of a new era of automation and sophistication at NEW. The company thereafter saw tremendous growth from being a mere Tier 2 supplier to Bharat Forge Ltd to becoming a Tier 1 supplier (direct supplier) to a very prestigious Indian conglomerate and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Mahindra & Mahindra Limited in the year 1984.
After gaining experience at NEW, Satish decided to take automation to a whole new level. He founded NPT in December of 1991 to achieve just that. A good mix of skills developed over the years made NPT proud of its capability, when machining high-precision fillet radii on a single point hand-lathe was something that attracted the attention of a German Machining Expert, who flew all the way to witness just that. This indeed was a matter of great pride being an Indian.
Proactively envisaging the future and adapting to it before time saw the introduction of the very first Computerized Numeric Control (CNC) driven turning center CNC-500 at NPT in December of 1996. This futuristic thinking, well ahead of time gave NPT an edge over most others in the industry, time and again.
From tractor division to automotive division, Netalkar Power Transmission has become a name synonymous to High-Quality crankshafts. Tata Motors Ltd in 2003, SAME Deutz-Fahr, Italy in 2012 and the Japanese Auto OEM, Isuzu Motors India in 2018, the list of esteemed customer went on and on. American giants such as General Motors Ltd and Ford Motors Corporation as customers have brought glory to NPT’s client list. A special Vertical Crankshaft development for Ecomotors, USA has made us believe in no limits to what we can achieve.
Today, we see Netalkar Power Transmission as a company, which has seen consistent growth year-on-year with a solid list of customers who have stayed put with the company for decades. A strong presence across various industry segments gives us the ability to hold on to an ever-stronger growth chart. The company now is already on the path of diversification in various other fields and sectors.
NPT believes that the future only brings in endless opportunities.
